Funding awarded to ‘green’ school
An environmentally-friendly school has been awarded funding for renewable energy systems.
An environmentally-friendly school in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire has been awarded a funding boost for its efforts.
Blue Coat Primary School has been granted £7,000 from Scottish Power’s trust to allow the school to install renewable energy technology.
Peter Moore of Viridis, commented: “I believe it is very important that from an early age, children realise the importance of conserving the earths natural resources. This system will allow them to monitor how much CO2 emissions they are avoiding, as well as encouraging them to think about other ways they can help the environment.
He added: “The staff and pupils should be very proud of themselves for showing such a dedication to environmental issues.”
The money will be used to install solar PV panels and a six kW wind turbine, along with a web-based monitoring system and a weather station.
School administrator Mary Buckley said that the school was delighted with the funding and will be using the new installations as a focal point through which to educate the children.
It’s often not known, but schools, community projects etc. ca recieve up to 50% grants for renewable energy installations!
