Lack of understanding around “Clean energy Cashback” scheme!
Today I attended a seminar run by the REA about the benefits of the Feed In Tariff scheme (FIT) (also known as the “Clean Energy Cashback” Scheme). The audience was largely made up of installers, “would be” installers, and builders/developers.
I was horrified at the lack of understanding in the room, on how the scheme actually works (apologies to all those people within those sectors who do understand it!).
This got me thinking! If the people in these industries don’t understand it? How is the general public expected to understand it??!! And why??
The answer is simple really, it’s not being advertised/promoted anywhere!!
To briefly explain it again:
The FIT scheme applies to any renewable energy technology generating electricity. Solar PV, Wind turbines, hydro power, anaerobic digestion, and CHP.
There are 3 revenue streams:
1). You get paid for all the electricity you generate, regardless of what you do with it.
2). You get paid for all the electricity you export back to the grid (IE what you generate, but don’t use)
3). You make savings by not “importing” electricity, when you use waht you generate.
The financial benefits are great – An annual return on investment of around 8%, tax free (for domestic users), and index linked for up to 25 years…
Please spread the word!!
