We want your views on renewable energy..
We really need your thoughts on renewable energy.
For example:
Is it worth it? Why should we do it? Are the financial benefits (from the “clean cash back” scheme) enough?
If you have any questions around renewable energy, then post them here. As independent renewable energy consultants, we will give you totally honest answers…
Renewables:
I don’t know much/anything about the financials, I would like to approach it from the should we do it – the simple answer is YES
- Fossil fuels that are the basis of much of the UK generation industry are finite resources, as they get scarcer prices will rocket and we will be faced with huge energy costs
- fossil fuel based generation, despite the multiple measures to mitigate it, still contributes significantly to CO2 emissions and therefore global warming
- Renewables offer the majority of households to have some form of self-generated electricy capacity; this reduces the pull on central resources, improves UK energy security & household energy bills. Of course that has to be balanced against the initial cost of and ongoing maintenance (as required)
Thanks for the great comments Rob.. To give you an idea of how the finances work, take a look at this link.. Investing in renewables
First, not every renewable energy opportunity has a strong business case for domestic and business use.
In my opinion renewable energy must be justified on a cost basis. Yes, the overal aim is to lower the emissions of airborne pollutants and also greenhouse gases, which are linked to climate change.
But if it’s not financially viable the mass markets will not take up the new technology.
Solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy are used in less than 2 percent of total UK power generation. To meet the 2020 targets this needs to increase.
However, that said I do think that the rising electricity and gas prices linked with government incentives will make renewable technology more viable.
Great points about renewable energy Seb, you’re right, the finances need to be right in order for people to embrace it. As renewable energy consultants, we understand that the returns are the most important consideration for most people…
