Many investment funds seem to be “dipping their feet” into renewable energy technologies!?
Rumour has it that private investors (in particular pension funds), have seen the financial benefits of renewable energy.
Barry Nutley of Viridis Energie Consultants (independent renewable energy consultants) commented, “With the recent introduction of the Feed in Tariff, we have had several enquiries around this. Basically, investors are looking to “rent” roof space to install solar PV. They pay for the upfront costs, and maintain the system through it’s life-time. In return, they take the FIT and export payments, whilst the client makes the savings on any energy generated they use. It’s a “win win” situation”. He added, “once you get to certain size system, the maths work out nicely for investors of this type. The returns would be in excess of 10% annually, and what’s more important, is that they are guaranteed for 25 years, and index linked! Recently, we carried out the suitability and cost analysis for a project of 800 homes!”
