The Feed In Tariff – Still confusion reigns!
The Feed In Tariff (FIT) has now been “live” since April of this year, and there is still confusion around the scheme, and how it works. But perhaps the biggest area of confusion is around who pays for it? And this leads to the most asked question we have, which is “with the current state of the economy, what happens if the Government stop it? Will the payments stop?”…..
Well. The first thing to consider, is that it is NOT the Government who make the payments, but the Energy suppliers… The Government have simply passed the law which means that your energy supplier has a legal obligation to pay.
Whilst it is true that the Government may change the details of the scheme (indeed, they will be reviewing it periodically), however, it has been made clear that those already in the scheme, will be paid as per the scheme details, at the time of entry…
What we need to consider, is that there is no benefit to the Government to change the scheme (in a negative way). As a country, we have made various commitments to reduce our carbon emissions, and currently, we are miles away from achieving those. Hence the need for the scheme??
So, for those of you who are wary of entering into the scheme because of our current economic climate, then don’t. If anything, it’s probably a better time to get into it??
