UK solar company responds to challenge of rogue salesmen in the sector

Last week’s headline “Great Solar Power Con” heralded a Daily Mail story about “rogue salesmen jumping on the green bandwagon.” The story was carried on Sky News and has the potential to do unmerited harm to the UK Solar Power Industry.

The pal is that within 6 months they will have ensured that every one of their installers has signed up to the letter and spirit of the KCC and from that date, January 1, 2012, the only people allowed to install a Krannich system will be holders of this symbol of excellence and integrity.

The Daily Mail was reporting a survey by the Consumers Association which found that some Solar Salesmen were:

- Failing to ask how much power the household used before calculating potential savings
- Over-estimating potential income from the solar system
- Over-estimating the pay-back period
- Failing to allow for the location of a property – which could be in the shade
- Offering incentives for a 24 hour sign-up.

“While parallels are drawn with the way double-glazing salesmen wreaked havoc through the suburbs in the 1970s and 1980s, the latest scam risks bringing the entire solar panel industry – which could offer genuine benefits for families – into disrepute,” commented the newspaper.

As Juan Romera-Wade has said the case for domestic solar power systems in the UK is already strong enough. It doesn’t need over-selling, for many properties it speaks for itself. As a major player in this market place Krannich UK is determined to give a lead to the industry. It is obvious that some people are flouting the Solar Panel Industry code of conduct – so they have decided to take matters into their own hands. Implicit in the Krannich Care Code will be the right to withdraw certification – and publicise that they have done so – from companies that do not adhere to the guidelines
